WHAT IS IT?
Chives are a type of herb known commonly in the spring season and into summer. It has a fresh taste with hints of garlic and onion.
HOW DO YOU STORE IT?
To freeze chives, it’s best to wash them first and cut them into a manageable size for later use. They can be placed in an ice cube tray and covered with a small amount of water or olive oil. They can also be placed in a freezer safe bag with the air removed and be stored for several months.
If they will be used sooner, they can be placed in the refrigerator with a damp paper towel wrapped around the roots for 1 to 2 weeks.
WHEN CAN YOU GET IT?
Chives do the best in mildly cool weather so they are usually best in the spring and potentially early summer.
WHY SHOULD YOU EAT IT?
Raw chives can provide you with Vitamin A, C, and K. They add a great flavor to foods and they also contain fiber and several antioxidants.
HOW CAN YOU EAT IT?
Chives are a perfect garnish to dishes like eggs, baked potatoes, soups or salads.
